Hello:

Does anyonwe know what does exactly means this error in Interbase?:

Unsupported on-disk structure for file C:\VETDADOS.GDB: found 8, support 10

The GDB file is supposed to be OK, so why I cannot open it with Interbase ODBC driver, so I can migrate it to the format I want (Access to be exact). I used the latest version of Interbase so it couldn't be generated with a newer version.

Thanks a lot

Wolfykaos, mail the database to me, maybe I can crack it

Wow, guys!

I've been so amazed today when I came into the forum and see all these posts... You've really broke your head trying to find the solution... I'm really impressed. Thanks.

Svanels, your offer is really yummy, but first you must know that the DB is 8 Mbytes long, so I can´t send you it by e-mail, but you can download it from an unlimited mail account that I have (I would tell you the passwd and the login). I'll ask my boss for his permission and if he agrees it would be great if you can migrate it (I've to ask him because of the privacy policy of the client's data, but I don´t think it would be a problem).

Thanks a lot again, as soon as my boss arrives I'll tell you something.

Hello Svanels!

I didn´t forget you: It's just that my boss have gone away to Portugal till next week's Monday and he told me to wait until he speaks with the client (he'll see him there I suppose).

Cheers

Ok Wolfykaos, i did some experimenting these days.
The client needs to make a back-up of the database VETDADOS.GDB with the Interbase Back-up Utility that runs on his Server.

You must restore this backup with the Database --> Maintenance --> Restore options found in IBConsole.

This will Upgrade the database to support 10

Try it out

Hi Svanels:

Sorry about the delay, but my boss took more time to come back from Portugal.

It would be very difficult for the client to do the backup, because he doesn´t know anything about computers, and as I don´t know exactly how interbase works and its appearance it would be difficult for me too to guide him by telephone (we often have to explain things by phone like "making double clicks", because they´re really lamers, and it's exhausting when making more difficult things).

We have the permission of the client to give you the BD, so you can take it from this address:

The user is wolfy@xxxx.com and the passwd is xxxx. The BD is attached in the first message, the one whose subject (asunto) is "Chema, esta es la BD". The file is 10999 Kbytes long, so I have put it here (because most mail services cannot receive such long messages). If you think you could receive it by mail, I send it to you.

Thanks a lot Svanels, I would really appreciate if you could make the translation of the BD.

Please, let me know any problem you'd have

Cheers

There is a bug in the database, I got an invalid system file message. I can see the table names, but can't drill down to the data.
Another thing, I unzipped the file and the size grew to 43.4 MB, transporting to access? Es overdosis para elefante !!!

I tried repairing it but no luck (yet)

I counted 35 table of which, 10 are corrupted. I am using Interbase 5.0, together with the SQL-Explorer from Borland.
Succeeded in visualize the structure of the tables, no keyfields, triggers, only indexes.
Some of them have data others are empty. A lot of number codes.
My opinion, start from scratch. Steven van Els

Wow, Svanels! Then at last you could open it!
Well, It is usually difficult to translate veterinary data, because it's often very dark, and user applications are very strange. Just tell me how to open it and I'll do the rest (we just need certain tables, not all of them).

Then, you say that the way to open it is to use Interbase 5.0 (I'll download it), and SQL-Explorer (where can I get this?). In what way you use it togheter?

Well, thanks a lot for your hard efforts... I hope I could finish it in anyway soon (and I will stop bothering you at last! :) )

Cheers friend

I suspect that the database is Version 4 or lower, but I don't have that version.

About the sql-explorer, it is part of the Delphi pro suite.
Uploading would be difficult.

Hi Svanels!

I've sent you a couple of e-mails, for you to send me the BD in access mode, although it's not correct, so that I can browse the accessable data, because perhaps it's enough for me...

Well, tell me anything, please (the client it's getting nervous)

Thanks a lot friend

Cheers.

There is a problem with the data, I get a:
General SQL error, internal gds software consistency check (can't continue after bugcheck)

The database shows a size of 45 MB but I didn't detect that amount of data. The equivalent datafile in access (without data) is 232 kB Steven van Els
