The latest v6 software was very stable and the same hardware supports up to v8 Definity. And, some hardware is still being used with cm3 and cm4.
The fact that Avaya will no longer manufacture hardware or support older software does not mean that you cannot get support from other sources using used or refurbished hardware.
If it's working for you and you don't need IP or enhanced features added in future software loads, it will last for years to come and you will be able to find support for several more years.
A great teacher, does not provide answers, but methods to teach others "How and where to find the answers"

I agree about the stability of the system. The issue is with getting additional software licensing for increased capacity due to staffing growth projections.
Also, my life was simpler when I was supporting the older Definity platform vs the new stuff. The only issues were related to carrier outages.
AVAYA is openly hostile to the old platforms, they wish they would just go away. They either refuse to sell you the RTU for the switch, or they make it cost so much to add the RTU, that it isn't worthwhile. That is the issue with older software loads/switches. They want them to go away so they can sell you new stuff for more $$$$, it is a business and they are now owned by a consortium of Venture Capital firms, there has never been as much focus on elliminating SKU's and increasing the bottom line as there has been recently.
