Does anyone know anything aboout iscsi technology?

So MikeLacey, in your opinion do you think iSCSI is good and reliable. I mean considering all of the problems that arise with ethernet, like collisions, bottlenecks and downtime.
 
I don't know Ron -- this is the first time I've come across it, I just did some searching when I saw your query.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be reliable. Collisions and other problems at the network layer would be dealt with by the TCP layer.

The speed would depend (obvious comment coming up here) on the speed of the network. We use a 100mbs network here at work, that's more than sufficient to run a fileserver so I would guess that you could run some iSCSI devices over it, particularly as it's a switched environment.

I notice that adaptec seem quite enthusiastic about it -- might be worth keeping an eye on. Mike
