I have uninstalled this, because it is rubbish, but now any media files that I get via email, automatically want to open up in winamp, does anyone know where this file association is coming from.

I am assuming that there is a registry key that i have to remove, does any one know where it is please?

When student asks a questions, often the most obvious solution is the answer.

Open Explorer (The file manager, not IE).
Click Tools - Folder options - File types and look for the extension giving you problems, just delete the entry.
You may want to browse through the list to see if any others are associated.
Next time you click, it will ask you what to use.

Or, Open Media Player, click Tools - Options and the File Types tab and clcik select all, or just the ones you want.

While you're in Explorer File Types, you can just set it to Windows Media Player instead of deleting it. Just use the "Change" button, and select the program you want to use. You may want to know the exe name for the particular program (Just in case it doesn't specify the 'familiar name'.

Hope this helps also.

Thanks PatrickDickey, that's the one.

Anytime.. I've had to reset file types in the past.. That's how I remembered it. Comes from forgetting to uncheck "Always Use this program with the following file types" and not having the right program.. [wink]

Don't forget if you do it that way you need to cover alot of extensions.
The alternative is easier and no mistakes possible.
Open Media Player, click Tools - Options and the File Types tab and clcik select all, or just the ones you want.

That was the one I was looking for Marcs41, thanks.

Thanks to all who responded, problem is now solved by a combination of you two, and I have also learnt something I did not know.

You're welcome, and learning something in the process is a nice bonus!
