Document protection for mail merge

Have you tried making the file read only? Should you need to make changes in future you will need to take read only attrribute off of the file. Anyone trying to change information, it will force them to do a save as option, thus the original is intact.

When the file is under read-only, when the merge is complete the file can still be tampered with and printed with out saving. I need the document to be completely locked from users but still allow another program to merge into the correct fields.
