Is crystal capable of exporting into msWord format?
When I do an export to Word 97-2000 the resulting file has a .doc extension but if I look at it in notepad or in a hex editor it's actually just an RTF file.

Is this the designed behavior? If not, any idea what's causing it?

I'm running CR 8.5

I don't have an answer for this. I've just discovered the same problem and am wondering if you've found the answer since your posting. I didn't notice this until I tried to import a Crystal Word export to my Palm, which won't accept it. Sure enough, viewing the code in Notepad reveals it as an RTF.

Do I have the wrong DLLs?

Dear JC717,

You didn't say what version of Crystal you are on. There is a dll available for download at Crystal (for version 8.5) that allows you to export Word (Exact Format). Perhaps that will help.

The download is called: crxf_wordw.zip

and can be downloaded here:

Hope that helps,

Thanks. We are on Crystal 8.5 and have the crxf_wordw.dll. Exports to Word, while looking like a Word document, are RTF. Same problem as JC.

Rosemary and Infobabe,

I was exporting using the Craxdrt.dll and the crEFTWordForWindows designation for .FormatType

I never found a workaround for it. Our client didn't mind the RTFs, so I didn't spend too much time on it.
