Do you often need to access the server via Terminal Services Client?

I am fairly new to SQL server and serve as a backup dba but mainly an application maintenance person (we have an offsite dba). My data security department just revoked my Terminal Services access to the prod server (this is company wide - new security policy). I need to present a case that I really need this access. What may be the main reasons? Do the dba's typically have access to the server? Just to be clear I have full admin rights on the SQL server.

Thanks,
Mario

I have full admin rights on our SQL Server (I am the sysAdmin also), but in all honesty I very rarely need access through T.S. for SQL Server purposes. You can manage SQL Server from any computer quite easily, & the only times I connect directly for SQL Server would be applying service packs, hotfixes etc...

I agree except when the server is remote from my location in which case I find it faster to use terminal server especially if the connection is slow or as is more and more frequent they have the sql server ports blocked in the firewall.

Honestly i would say not really. As the backup dba im guessing your responsibilty is just to make sure everthing is fine and to take over if the main dba is unavailable. The main dba should have access to the machine though. 95+% of the time i can do everthing i need remotly through em or other tools.

i would say if you have EM, a way to look at the file system, and tools that allow you to see the servers performance(some dont like using profiler, but if your ok then this is covered too), you really dont need access. Unless your going to be responsible for updating the server and applying updates. Then you will need to disccuss it with them.
