Hello:

Does anyone else, besides me, think that the DataReports in VB6 are bad? They're ok for simple reports, and even slightly complicated ones, but you try to do anything complicated and it's a no-go.

I've been pointed to Active Reports to use as an alternative, and I'm considering it.

What little work I did with the DataReport didn't inspire me to continue using them (however to be fair, I didn't spend much time) - I purchased Crystal Reports 8 and found it to be quite usefull. I have used Crystal Reports 4.51 (the version that ships with VB) - it was a decent reporting tool in its day (the Access 2.0/VB 3 days) but you can't beat Crystal Reports 8. I also tried VideoSoft's VSReports to extract stand-alone reports from Access, however we had to return the product due to a limitation with parameter queries (you can't use them!).

I've been working with VB6 Data Report and found out that it is only good for a simple report. For a complex report with graphics or formula, I prefer Crystal Report.

I've tried DataReports en VB6, I think I'll continue using Crystal Reports until VB7 appears. It´s only usefull for very simple reports.
