Hello all,

By now, I should have needed to do this however I document well and never ran into the issue, until now.

We took over a new customer that does not have the default Administrator Password. I have not had a chance to touch their system yet so I figured I would clear up a few things before going on site.

Assuming that the security login is still default, I can use that to log into the security settings and re-set the Administrator Password, correct?

If not, is the only other way to use the DTE Port and re-set the security settings? Oddly enough, I have never needed to use the DTE Port.

I have browsed through the knowledge base however still have a few questions and no test PBX at the moment.

When using say PuTTY and the RS232 Port, can I connect to a live system or does it need a reboot with PuTTY already up and running?

After defaulting the Security Settings, does the PBX need a reboot?

Does all this look correct?

Once in I just run the following Commands:
AT
AT-SECURITYRESETALL
MAC ADDRESS
Wait for "OK" Response?

Thank you!

If it is a R11 system then security was changed it makes you once you log in the first time. If it is an older system then yes if you can get into the security settings you can reset the admin password.

The instructions for reseting the password through the DTE port look correct. You will get an OK after the first AT, you do AT-SECURITYRESETALL and it will show you MAC address of the system and then you type it, and then wait for it to finish. Sometimes you get an error on the reset and do it again and it works. Pretty simple.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Yes, it's all.

if you need other way try to access to security settings with manager.

If password was not chaged user is security and password is securtypwd

If you can log in, then reset security settings to default.

Regards

critchey: Thank you. Good point on the R11 prompting you to change the default passwords. Forgot about that.

So say it is an R11 system and I default the passwords through the DTE port, I am assuming it is going to prompt me to change the Administrator, Security and System passwords from default, correct?

Thank you!

Yes if it is R11 after you default with DTE port it will ask once you login to change all passwords again. They are pushing for security with R11.

One more thing on this topic that I want to make sure is correct.

I have noticed on R10+ Systems the option to go to: File > Advanced > Security Settings when not already logged in as Administrator is no longer there like on R9.1 and previous releases.

Is there any way to directly access the security settings if the Administrator Password is not know on R10+ releases or no? Say by chance I had that password however not the Administrator password. Just curious.

It also appears if I have a system running R9.1 with R11 Manager Software installed, the "Security Settings" option is no longer there if not first logged in as Administrator.

It is not the fact you are not logged in as Administrator it is you are looking at "simplified view"(basic mode). Go to view and change to advanced view(standard mode). You should see it now.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Happy to help and thanks for the pink.
