Do IP Addresses for DNS Servers Change Often? 3

Hi,

I have a small network of three computers at my house. I move files between the computers, so I gave each computer a static local (192) IP address to make things easier. My Linksys router is given a dynamic IP address by my ISP (Comcast).

However, Windows made me hard code the DNS server addresses when I set the addresses of my computers as static. I don't know how to just configure the local addresses without making the DNS addresses static, too.

So, (1) will this cause DNS-lookup issues, namely, will the DNS IP addresses change; and (2) is there any way for me to make the local address static, but keep the DNS-server address dynamic?

Thanks,

Richard

no, you get your DNS from comcast. although their DNS box should not change, your dhcp address of the wan interface may change. are you using a 192 add for your dns or a comcast public address?

You can also use Google's free DNS server at 8.8.8.8

Star please ...:)

If you're worried about Google "watching" you, you could also use the OpenDNS service.

Ha ha---it worked...

Thanks for the star!

OpenDNS is a major PAIN, IMHO!!!

There are some that never change, like AT&T, like 68.94.157.1, 151.164.1.8
