We are looking for a way to be able to send a VM to all our users VM inboxes.
I can created a DList but that would require adding one by one each VM as well as maintaining that list and we want to avoid that. This would be for important messages that cant be sent by email (eg mail server down) or emergency messages sent in addition to emails.

What is a broadcast mailbox? Does this do what it sounds like? I searched the help docs for Nupoint and only found how to add members to a dlist and refered to Broadcast but no details on what it is. Google didnt get me far either.

Thanks

Drew

EDIT: Cant find the edit button. We are using nupoint Build: 14.2.2.15.01

A broadcast message mailbox would have the same limitations and issues as the distribution list as it requires a distribution list to function.

There are 2 built in functions that can be utilized.

1) - System Distribution list 000
If memory serves, all mailboxes are automatically added to system distribution list 000. This may or may not be controlled by a FCOS option. Messages created for Distribution list 000 will deliver as messages to all mailboxes and turn on lights as appropriate.

2) - Message of the day
Message of the day is controlled by recording a greeting in the Attendant Mailbox for the line group (999 by default). This message will play automatically, and be uninterruptable before the user has access to their mailbox, on the next login of the user. It is not a message and does not turn on lights. The next login, it will play again but it will be interruptable and will cease playing thereafter.

This reminds me of a funny story,

When I left a company a while back they happened to have a Mitel Mail (Nupoint of the day). I'd been out drinking at a bar and I suddenly had inspiration for a prank. I assumed (correctly), that they would not think to change the passcode of mailbox 999 and that I could dial in and record a message for everyone to hear, that they must hear, that even if they hung up and tried again they would hear and no one would know how I did it or how to get rid of it. (simply delete greeting in MB 999). Sooooo, long story short, they got to listen to me drunkenly laughing at them and singing along to the local talent at the bar and leaving my phone on the table to record the ambiance for 10 minutes or so before any of them could access any of the mailboxes. I also suspected, rightly as it turns out, that none of them would know they could skip thru it the second time around.

It's been 15 years and I still think this was the best prank I've ever played

LOL.. nice.. I will play with it when I get a chance. thanks for the info :)

I just went thru the help files for the Nupoint and I cannot find any reference to Master List 000.

I'm confident it existed but it may not any longer.

There are up to 99 lists that can be manually created via the system admin mailbox for the linegroup

Pretty sure you are correct that there was a system distribuition list.

Found this in the Help files. Sounds like you can create a Master List that contains all mailboxes in the system.
Overview
System-wide distribution lists are created in the administrator’s mailbox. These are called master lists, and can be accessed by any mailbox on the system. Master lists eliminate the need to store the same large distribution list in more than one mailbox.
For example, one list may contain the mailboxes of everyone in the company; a second list may exist for the Personnel Department; a third may list mailboxes in the Finance Department.
Like ordinary distribution lists, master lists are created from the User Options Menu. They are numbered from 01 to 09, like users’ personal distribution lists. When users want to send messages to a master list, they must add an extra zero to the beginning of the list number to tell the system to access a master list and not a personal distribution list. (For example, users enter 001 to access Master List 01.)
Using a Master Distribution List
To make a message for a Master List the mailbox must have feature bit 020 (Make) and feature bit 034 (Make to master distribution list) in its FCOS.
To give messages to a master list, the mailbox must have the feature bit 035 (Give to master distribution list) in its FCOS.
To receive a Master Distribution List message:
The mailbox can receive a master list message either through the Make or Give command.
The mailbox must have feature bit 045 (Receive master distribution list message) in its FCOS.
To distinguish a master list from an ordinary distribution list, users must add an extra zero (0) to the beginning of the master list number.
To send a message to the members of Master List 01:
Log in to your mailbox.
Press M to Make a message. The system prompts: "Enter mailbox number to make message for."
Enter 001.
The system prompts: "Record a message for Master List <name>.

Yes, SXwizard, this is what I was refering to with system/master Dist Lists.

I still believe there once was a list 000 that contained every mailbox automatically but it might no longer be the case.
