Hiya :),

Recently bought a colocation and shipped away my server bundled up like a pampered baby in Windows 2003 Server ....

The colocation provider I have says they give me 255 IPs for free so do I need a DNS server as long as I don't go over 255 clients?

(heres a dumber question) please answer above this one is just wondering.
When going to network solutions etc ... how would I configure each customer's domain to point to the right IP?

Someone else will be doing it but I wanted to know how to do it myself... thanks

Thanks
Eric

If it just one server i wouldnt see the reason for using more than 1 IP address on the 1 server unless it was daul nic'ed. As for dns depends on what you want todo, do u want to host the domains or do u want this to be done by some external company? You can have lots of domains pointing at the same box you just have to set headers when setting up the webserver for each website.

Yeah if I used NetSolutions Advanced DNS Manager... pointed traffic to my box's IP Address... used headers.... tha'd work right :) ?

1 more Q: Can I host my mail server on the same box as my IIS6.0 Web Server? If so how exactly?

Thanks Faith.

Yeah you can host a mail server on the same box but i would suggest using something other than the built in snmp server in IIS as its basic and limied.

And your dns thing sounds good to.

Arighty thanks...

I was looking at Merak Mail Server but perhaps you have a better suggestion? Has to be configurable for multiple domains.

Thanks again Faith.

Only really used exchange so far, try making another post about it im sure some people could recommend you some good mail servers to use.

Try IPSwitch IMail, it will co-exist with windows server fine. We have several hundred mail domains running this on the web server with about 150 web sites. We have had absolutely no problems to date. You can download an eval copy from IPSwitch, you'll find that you can have your email server running in about fifteen minutes.

Does IPSwitch Mail have any advantage over Merak Mail Server?...

Seems that to get Unlimited Domains it costs 1495 from IPSwitch... and for Merak it's unlimitted for 300 or so...

Problem I run into is I have experience with neither product...

thanks for the reply.
