I have a server that was deleted out of wins and dns. The server was renamed and the dns\wins was recreated for the new server name. The problem is when you ping the old server name it responds. I cleared cache flushed dns wins still happens. Also tried from multiple pc's. How can I locate where this record is pulling from.

1st steap would be from a clinet PC, try a NSLOOKUP. If it resolves, then the issue is on the DNS server, of it doesn't then take a look at your HOSTS/LMHOSTS files, and WINS.

nslookup comes back with host not found

it is not in the host file

I have 2 wins servers and it is not in those databases.

Do an 'ipconfig /flushdns' and then to 'ipconfig displaydns' and see if it is in the list (pre-cached). Also, do an 'nbtstat -c' and see if the old name shows up there. If it does, then the old name is configured in your lmhosts file.
