Hi

I am running a windows 2000 server whith DNS with exchange 2000 and am having DNS problems. When i do a NSLOOKUP on the server to the server name it fails, when i add its own IP address as the primary DNS server in IPconfig then nslookup works but external email and web access stops. Should i add its own address as the DNS server or should it be the address of my ISP.

HELP!!!

People,
It sounds like your server is not forwarding requests. Leave the servers ip in the primary dns in you ipconfig. Go to Start --> programs --> administrative tools --> dns. Click on the plus next to your server name. Click on the plus next to forward lookup zones and delete the "." folder. This folder tells your dns server that you are running a root server and it will not forward and requests. Then right click on your server in the dns window and select properties. Click on the forwarders tab and enter the ip(s) of your ISP's dns server(s). Close you dns window and your server should begin to forward requests.

Have a look on my site on the article about DNS external-internal. There are some details there.
