DNS Win2k3 lockup

I am having problems with DNS I think it's DNS anyway.
I have 2 DC (win2k3)that have external access to do DNS queries that DNS stops on and the machine locks up or is very slow to run anything on.

I have another 2k3 controller that is running DNS but does not have external access, and it is fine.

The last DC was pointing to it self for DNS and was playing up till changed it to point at good machine above.

These machines apart from good one have been rebuilt,DNS reinstalled, no change this is driving me insane, sorry more insane. Anyone with any ideas.

Can you explain a bit more please regarding your DNS architecture, as im a little lost. You have 2 DC's that also run as DNS Servers, they have external access!?!?! Are they also local DNS Servers, with forwarders setup???

Im not really sure what the 2k3 controller with no external access is doing either. Do you have multiple domains???

One would assume that your DC would be pointing firstly to whatever your primary DNS server, if that is the DC itself then it should be pointing to itself.

Sorry about incoherent babble.

2 DC's running DNS we have holes in PIX to allow them to query

DNS. They have both been locking up. If you take DNS off they stop locking up. They have been both totally rebuilt.

Still have problem. Where do i look to try and resolve.

Off the top of my head it sounds like your DNS query may be getting stuck in some sort of loop.

Where are your forwarders point too??

What happens if you try to do nslookup queries for internal and external entries from either server???
