Hello all I am cutting over from a NT 4.0 box to a 2k3 R2 server
I have set up my Dc with dhcp, wins, and dns
all work correctley except for the dns server
dns workes correctley from the server but not from the workstations (win 2k, win Xp pro)
your run of the mill url's resolve ie google.com, yahoo.com etc, But when i try to ping our mail server ( linux box hosted ) mail.systek.com i get a reply back that it can not find the address

any and all ideas please
and thank you in advance

Have you pointed/defined your mail server in dns?
Additionally are your pc's set to autodetect?
You may need to update the dns records locally on the pc's and or statically assign each pc to the dns server.

ok in windows server 2003 r2 how do i make the the entry into dns to point request to the ip address that they need to go?

Use the DNS tool under "Admin tools". Create entries by right-clicking on the domain.

Additionaly, the record you need to create should be an A (Answer) record.
