DNS Taking 4 weeks to Propagate? Any Ideas Why?

I registered some private name servers with my domain registrar on Dec 12th 2008:

ns1.whitespark.ca - 70.84.139.138
ns2.whitespark.ca - 70.84.139.139

I let that simmer for about 5 days, then I switched over some of my domains to start using the private name servers.

It has almost been 4 weeks now, and many DNS servers still are not resolving. For example:

And:

I called my domain registrar and they are clueless. They said that everything has been setup correctly where they are, and they have no idea why some DNS servers are not resolving correctly. They say it's beyond their control.

Is this just slow DNS propagation? 3 to 4 weeks seems completely unheard of.

Or do you think there is a problem with the way the name servers were registered?

Any tips on how I can troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

Hi DerbyAdmin,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I did sort it out. My hosting company looked into it and edited the DNS zone on my whitespark.ca domain. Here's what they did in WHM (web Host Manager):

1. Click on "Edit DNS Zone" on the left menu.
2. Select the domain you wish to update.
3. Change the SOA record for the domain to reflect the primary name server, which in your case would be ns1.whitespark.ca.
4. Add ns1 and ns2 A records (using the "Add New Entries form near the bottom"), and fill out the appropriate info. In this case, it's 70.84.139.138 and 70.84.139.139.
5. Press the "Save" button and the changes should be complete.
