hi,
im new to solaris so please bear with me.

i have to rebuild a solaris server which is running as a DNS server. does anyone know how to install a dns server? does it already come with solaris?

any feedback welcome

Hi,

check They have BIND package. DNS configuration is straight forward. Try google it first. There are a lots of article on howto set it up.

Hello,

I think that bind comes with solaris, so probably you won't need to install extra packages.

The DNS name server is called in.named, and it's started at boot time if /etc/named.conf file exists.

There's a lot of documentation about configuring bind, but if you are looking for a fast configuration without reading all the doc you can try webmin GUI to configure this services (and many others like apache, sendmail, etc...)

the bind on sol8 is still version 8.x
on sunfreeware is 9.x
there are a few improvements in bind 9
but for basic DNS service both are fine.
If using CLI, double-check your typing

im trying to install webmin but i cant find gunzip anywhere on the net can any one point me in the right direction?
