Hello. I think this one even stumps the morons at Microsoft because they gave me BS to do, and their answer didnt work either.

I have an intermittent issue, where some member server dns records arbitrarily disappear. There is no rhyme or reason, or even any consistency, other than its the same servers that it happens to all the time. It could be ok for 3 days or 1 day.

The first thing MS had me do, was change my DHCP lease time to TWO DAYS. Their reasoning was that server resource records update every 24 hours and this way, scavenging in DHCP wouldnt cause any issue. Personally I think this is BS. They had me set scavenging to 12 hours, randomized on 12 hours as well.

SO, I have a few file/print servers, and 2 ISA servers who's records disappear. When I manually create them, there is no checkbox enabled to scavenge the record, so WHY are they disappearing?

I am not using WINS w/DNS either(just so we dont use that as a reason, possibly tombstoning records, etc). I have my DNS set up as HUB & SPOKE, and only DC01, can scavenge records, etc.

Ideas? Because this is really getting annoying, etc. Its a Win2K3R2 servers/Domain. All DC's are running DNS with the DC01 as the only server which can scavenge.

HELP! and thanks in advance.

I must not be reading your post correctly, you have servers on dhcp? If thats the case i would give them static ips.

We are having the same issue. Multiple member servers lose their DNS records. There is no consistency at all as to when it happens. Has Microsoft helped at all since your last post?

Thanks

No. they are blithering idiots. Their explanation was that I needed to set my DHCP lease to 2 days. CRAZY. Just once I would like to speak to someone OTHER than in India.

Is there anything appearing in the DNS event log. Sounds like the zone is being reloaded after you make your changes

they are being scavenged and marked for deletion for some reason. we are auditing everything and MS has no clue as to what is going on. they make you pay for support and then the support is awful.

What's the results of dcdiag /test:dns /dnsrecordregistration

Still today my records are being deleted. It is intermittent and always the same few servers.

Anyone else having this issue?
