I have 98SE clients with a W2K server. I have just change the DNS server address in DHCP but the clients do not seem to be picking up the new DNS server.
Is there anything I can do to push this through or do I have to wait until the dhcp lease starts to come to an end and it asks to have it again.
Will it then recognise the DNS change????

When the machines reboot they should try to renew the DHCP lease and get the new DNS information. On some 98 machines, I have had to go into the tcp/ip properties and set the DNS domain name manually to get it to work correctly.

Make sure your DNS is listed as the Preferred DNS for your clients (regardless of 98, ME, 2000 etc.) and the only DNS. Then make sure your DNS on 2000 Server points to itself. Using NSLOOKUP you should be able to resolve client names on your network. You should also be able to resolve your favorite web sites.

Be careful if you use a DHCP server other than your 2000 Server, (e.g. Linksys Router) and make sure you do not inherit the DNS from it. If you specify Preferred DNS and no others you will be ok.

Also, the Microsoft Support Tools NETDOM and NETDIAG can be very useful depending on your client.

Good luck
