tracert and poing cannot do external name resolution. NSLookup works. See:

F:\>ping Ping request could not find host Please check the name and try ag
ain.

F:\>nslookup
Default Server: fbrazContrDC.fucbraz.local
Address: 192.168.1.2

> Server: fbrazContrDC.fucbraz.local
Address: 192.168.1.2

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: any-fp.wa1.b.yahoo.com
Addresses: 69.147.125.65, 67.195.160.76
Aliases: fp.wg1.b.yahoo.com

OS is MS Windows server 2003 SP2 Standar Edition:

"E:\> netsh winsock reset catalog does not resolve problem.

Installing and uninstalling KB945553 did not do the trick, Any idea how to slove the problem?

Have you defined on a local DNS server? You have to understand that Yahoo uses multiple servers so if you are attempting to ping it is expecting to ping fp.wg1.b.yahoo.com. If another alias is being used you will probably not be able to ping. Do you have any internet forwarders configured on your DNS server?

First, tracert and ping are the same thing. Tracert is just a series of pings that are set to time out that helps you trace where the destination is. Next, have you tried pinging by ip address to find out if the problem is name resolution? Try putting yahoo in a host file and see if the ping command works. If it does, then you know you're dns is off. If it doesn't, something else is wrong. Have you checked you're logs? Just some thoughts. Good luck.
