Guys,

I'm hoping this will be a quick question regarding DNS/IIS. I have a dedicated server which I lease from an ISP, on which I have an IIS server which serves several sites. My domain names are sat with a seperate registra and I have DNS configured on those domains so they forward to the sites on my dedicated box.

Everything works fine, when browing to my domain from any system I get the site as expected, however, I'm not able to browse the site from the server itself, so if I open up IE on the dedicated server and browse to then I simply get posted to a 'Live Search' page saying the site cannot be found.

Do you think this is a DNS issue? or perhaps a misconfiguration in IIS?

I'd appreciate your thoughts guys,

Heston

This does sound like a DNS issue. Is your IIS server configured to accept the IP address for the web sites or the domain name?

If you go to ip address only what happens. Is the IP address of the server the same as the dns lookup.

What happens when you go to the loop back address 127.0.0.1?

Hello Colin, thanks for the come back.

Basicly I have multiple sites configured on the same IP address and use the host headers to tell them apart in IIS and serve the correct site.

If I browse to the IP address then I get a 'This Page Cannot Be Displayed' error and a 404 however I imagine this is because I've got multiple sites on the IP and IIS needs the host header to make it work!?

When browing to the loopback address I get a simple 'This Page Cannot Be Displayed' error in my brower with a HTTP 400 return code.

Thanks for any further advice you can offer mate.

Cheers,

Heston
