Hi,
Having installed a few MS Server Standard servers in the past this time I opted to install the SBS edition of 2008 in a small office environment as I was told it will “manage itself”. Turns out I am having more grief with this than any in the past, and as it is for a friend not even getting paid for it. Anyway I was hoping someone could help me with the issues.
Every few days the users will report loss of email connectivity and access to websites. I can remote in and gain access and notice that yes they have lost connection to their externally hosted email (connecting through MS Outlook, using IMAP protocol), they can get on some .com domains but no .co.uk domains.
I have also noticed that in the SBS console the connected computers do not have a tick by them they have a question mark so it is not seeing the status of them correctly. Also I have lost connection to the NAS box. I can ping it but when I run and type the name of it or the IP it does not resolve.
I am using a HP server, all PCs are connected to a HP 24port Gig switch and so is the BT Business Broadband router. The server’s anti-virus is NOD32.
Can anyone shed some light on what may be happening please as I do not have a strong networking background?
Thanks,
Andy
