Hi all

My first post on this website, so hello to all. Basicaly I have a full windows site and a windows DNS server. One of the windows machine "pc01" had the IP address 192.168.0.10 registered on the DNS server. Recently the IP address for "pc01" has changed for 192.168.0.20 but when ever I try to ping "pc01" from anywhere on the network it trys to ping 192.168.0.10 (old ip address), I have tried ipconfig /flush dns I have removed the entry for pc01 on the dns server. So my question is how do I force the dns server to update its database with the correct IP address of pc01 so that other clients can ping it by its name and not its IP address only.

If you need further information please do ask (all PC names and IP address are fake for security reasons)

Thank you

Owais

Are you creating manual entries for your server in DNS? If not, you may just need to check the DNS tab under advanced settings for the NIC on the server and make sure it's set to register with DNS.

From pc01 end, you can force it to update to the dns server by using ipconfig /registerdns. Is your DNS server setup to allow machines to dynamically update to the DNS server securely?
