We have run into a strange problem. We have an IP 406 running 3.2 We switched over to a new internet service provider and when we changed our DNS settings on the network it causes the phone system to stop functioning. It doesn't terminate existing calls, but you cannot dial new calls. As soon as we switch back to the old DNS settings it works again. You can ping the phone system but once you change the DNS settings the ping becomes erratic and can’t ping it most the time. If we put the phone on speaker so we can hear the dial tone as soon as we switch DNS it starts to go in and out and you cannot make a phone call. We put it back the normal dial tone comes back.

This has us really confused since I don't even know how the phone system is getting DNS information since no entries for DNS.

maybe the ip adres of the DNS is in conlflict with your ip office

what is the range for the ip office and what is the ipadres of the new DNS ?

did your try a reboot of the ip office ?
do you have a voicemail pro server and does it have a static ip adres ?

as long as the DNS settings before were pointing to a local router or server, you shouldn't have had to change dns server settings, or added the new ISP DNS server addresses as a failover low in the list, if the old settings work why change? maybe Im missing something, would help to know the network topology/ISP connection details possibly a little..

We didn't make any changes to our internal ip configuration. The only change we made was to our DNS servers forwarding entries. Our internal IP address for our DNS server, IP office and the static IP address of voicemail server are all the same.

Forwarding for dns servers?

Do you have a windows network with a dns server inside your firewalled network? Do you have a firewall that is just doing a simple dns request forwarding?

More info would be needed to identify your problem.

What are the IP addresses of your new dns servers?

If they are 192.168.x.x, 172, or 10 networks then it may truely be a confilct. I doubt that this is the case.
