Hi,
I am struggling with converting my unix mail server to Exchange server 5.5 on a Windows 2000 Advance Server machine. For convenience let us say my domain is test.com .My unix server had been configured to receive following both mail addresses to the same reciepient account.
reciepient@test.com
reciepient@server1.test.com
Here server1 is the name of the machine.
When configuring Win2k server I gave same server1 name to new machine to avoid any conflict.
Now with Exchange 5.5 any mail addressed to reciepient@test.com receive properly.
However when sending a mail addressing reciepient@server1.test.com mail is rejecting saying Host is unknown.
I guess problem is with DNS MX record entry. Below mentioned is the relevant entries I have used.
@ MX 10 server1.test.com
server1 MX 15 server1.test.com
server1 A 192.168.0.1
@ A 192.168.0.1

Appreciate if anybody give me a clue or guideline to get through this..
Thanks in Advance,
Chandrakalum

You must manually add the alias "recipient@server1.test.com" to the Exchange users' accounts. This is not defaulted in Exchange.

Thanks for the comment...
Alex do u think we should add alias for all the mail accounts in my server..
It is a bit difficult duty I guess.
Isn't there any easy way to do that..

Hey Chandra, export all the users to a .csv file. Add a column titled "Secondary-Proxy-Address" and set the column to equal the username from the Primary SMTP address column plus the new domain name. Or, you can use the HEADER.EXE tool from the BORK to set the columns for you....

Yes, every user needs the second SMTP address...Brontosaurus has the right of it though.

You also could have edited the default user template to include the secondary adress before you created any users, then it would automatically do this (a little late now I guess.)

Hi,
Thanks every body for your valuable comments...
I tried to edit manually and it works fine..
Tomorrow I will try that csv file solution..
(Today was a hectic day with that Klez virus...!)
So thanks every body again for those helps..
Chandra.
