DNS keeps breaking for no apparent reason

Our DNS server keeps braking mysteriously every once in a while, which is also running exchange 5.5 on 2000 server DC Active Directory but is not our global catalog server nor our primay DC. Also the secondary DNS server breaks when the primary DNS breaks, which is suppose to kick in and is being replicated. The funny thing is our other 2 DC servers which replicate w/our other 2 servers do not break and therefore our DNS keeps going. Is there anybody out there that has had this issue and if so what was the cause and the fix?

What do you mean it breaks? Does the service shut down, or does it just stop resolving addresses? Are there any errors in Event Viewer?

My advice would be to reinstall SP4 on the machine for starters. I also can't really agree with having Exchange running as a DC, but you must have a good reason for it.
