I have just set up a company with my first W2K and E2K machine. It is a small firm and I have run into a small problem with DNS.

I cannot get them to see their own web site. Their site is hosted by an outside company. But when they're inside the network it cannot resolve the domain name.

I think it has to do with DNS and forward/reverse lookup zones, but I am not familiar on how to set these up. Can anyone help me with this issue?

First answer a few questions.

Does your network have the same domain name as the website?
If it does you need to enter a host record in your dns that points to the web hosting server.

Have you manually entered any host (A) records in the dns server currenty running on your ADC?
There should be a record for your ADC and Exchange box

What DNS do your clients point to?
They should point to the internal dns which should have forwarders enabled and point to the ISP's DNS.

Yes, the network does have the same domain. I'm not sure how to do a Manual host record on the DNS. But I'll try and read up on it with your pointers and see what I can come up with.

Thanks, any other advice is greatly appreciated.

open your dns manager console and and navigate to the forward lookup zone for your domain.

right click in the pane and select new host record. in the name field type in the address field put in the hosting servers ip.

Can the network browse the internet besides their own site?

Thanks,
I'll do this tonight (after hours). The internet can be browsed, it is just their own domain that cannot be reached.

Thank you,
