Hey guys,
We are having some DNS issues and i can't seem to find the problem. During different times of the day i will have to flush my dns on my laptop in order to RDP to a server. Everything works if you put in the IP address, but sometimes it doesn't resolve the name of the server. Can someone help me with this?
Thanks!

Is there anymore info? What happens? Does it get really slow or just stop working?

It basically stops working. Here is exactly what happens. If i go to Remote Desktop Connection and type in one of the server names, most of the time it will work. But sometimes it will say check the computer name or ip address to make sure its correct. Then i would have to go in and repair my network connection or flush my dns settings. Then it would start working again. Its like it loses the dns info.

Have you tried pinging the server first to see what kind of connectivity you have? When this happens, can you connect to anything else on the internet, or is it just the servers?

I get good response time when i ping the dns server. Its just the servers that it affects.

try a nslookup and see if it returns multiple addresses. It also could be a wrong wins entry.

It only returns one address which is correct. We don't run wins here.

I would inspect the cache to see if there is a negative response, which I believe are cached for a short while. Then I would query each of the configured DNS server for the name using dig or nslookup to make sure they all respond, and that they are the ones you expect.

do you have a backup DNS server you could switch to? Have you been clearing the DNS cache on the server and scavanging old records?

Good luck,
