Hi
I have 2 websites inside my network, both perfectly viewable to the outside world. However, internally I cannot get to them if i type in there full name, I can if I type the ip address though. I have DNS running on my win2k pro server box and it appears to be fine handling all other dns issues internally. How do I set it up so I can resolve the www. name as it doesnt seem to allow me to enter these kind of names into whether using aliases or pointers or hosts...... help!

Thanks for any help, W

so, when you go into DNS manager (assuming you have DNS admin rights, minimally), you can't add a HOST entry into the forward lookup zone for your domain? That's pretty much all you'd need to do. Add a host called give it the IP value of your website, assuming that it's the same domain name of course.

Hi
OK, I didnt have a forward zone name which related to my web domain name. So have created one and done what you said, and it all looks good, but still doesnt allow me to open the web page? Any other ideas ???
Thanks again.

Hi, I have an internal DNS server. The website (internally held) has an external DNS address (our ISP who host the domain name for the website). If I type the IP address (which is an internal address) into a browser, then it appears fine. Just typing the full it will not appear. Nslookup says the DNS is external and the address is external (as our ISP simply points it to our router). All fair enough, but I would have thought an entry in my internal DNS server would be enough to allow me to view it internally (as mentioned in previous mails). condfused....
cheers.
