On startup I am sometimes getting:

EventID: 4015

The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.
EventID: 4004

The DNS server was unable to complete directory service enumeration of zone .. This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from Active Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and repeat enumeration of the zone. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.

EventID: 4004

The DNS server was unable to complete directory service enumeration of zone example.net. This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from Active Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and repeat enumeration of the zone. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.

Can anybody explain this and/or how to fix it?

Those are the only errors in Event Viewer. They do not occur every boot.

I think this problem raised because AD was installed before DNS. First you need to adjust DNS and then install AD.

On the other hand you could try to reinstall your dns, and see what happens.

have you authenticated dns with active directory?

also sometimes when you install AD it will not create the entrys in dns for the domain.

in the windows 2003 support tools there is a tool cailed netdiag use:

netdiag /fix

it will go through all your DNS and other settings and resolve any issues (this is a very good tool and will fix most things)

Hmmm...I installed DNS before AD...and it looks like DNS is populated correctly...though I am not entirely sure.

These messages only occur on occasion...in general it does not seem to be a problem.
