Hello,
I have 4 computers at my office. 3 of the 4 can use the Internet without any trouble. 1 of the 4 keeps giving me errors when I attempt to visit some sites. For instance, if I got , I get page cannot be displayed error. When I ping from the command prompt, it says that it gets a reply from 127.0.0.1, which is the local host. Any help on straightening out this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1) Are all computers connected the same way?
2) How are they connected? Through a router, proxy server, etc?
3) What happens when you ping or 66.218.71.198? The IP address should give you some kind of response.
4) What version of Windows?

Definitely make sure you try releasing/renewing the IP address on the PC and answer the questions above.

they are connected through a router. I can ping and 66.218.71.198 and get replies correctly. It appears to only be that is giving this computer a problem. Obviously, this isn't the end of the world, but I'm not sure that this is the only site that will give us problems. I also did a release/renew on the ip addy and still the same results. Thanks in advance

Something must be translating to 127.0.0.1, which is a loopback address. That doesn't make sense. If you have a firewall locally installed on the PC (like Norton Internet Security or Zonealarm), be sure to disable it and see if that helps.

Also, try pinging 65.243.133.80 which is the IP address of - you can also type the IP address in the browser to get the page to come up.

Remove the entry for classmates.com from your hosts file

smah,
sounds great, how do I do that? where is my hosts file? Thanks in advance!!!

It depends a little on your OS and what you've got installed, which hasn't been stated. Spybot creates it's own (if enabled) and there is a windows one also. Search the hard drive for host include system and hidden files. It is a text file and has no extention. It can be opened and edited with notpad or any text editor. You may find it in the system32 folder (or in a folder below this). If you have 2K or XP, you will also find one in the I386 folder, but that's just a sample.

smah, if you got a minute sometime can you give me a brief description about the purpose of the hosts file?
