DNS dynamic updates by non-member clients and Linux clients

Is there any way to have Linux clients and windows clients which are not members of the domain be able to authenticate against a DNS server to preform dynamic DNS updates?

Is it a Windows Server?

If so open DNS managment console and right-click the forward lookup zone -> properties -> general tab -> Dynamic updates drop-down -> select "nonsecure and secure".
