I have read other threads where people have the same issue.
Cannot browse or resolve addresses when dialed up to ISP.

Network - 2 pc's 1 xp and 1 2000 adv server in domain.
xp machine dials up to isp via modem.

ipconfig shows isp dns servers.
I can ping isp dns servers.
I can tracert to isp dns servers.
e.g. I cannot ping -a I have netsh to clean up NIC settings.
Outlook will not connect to mail servers.
Have statically provided isp dns servers in dial up properties.
Have designated dial up as gateway.
have disabled nic and tried dialling.
Have pulled out lots of hair.
ISP have said no changes to modems.
still cannot resolve ip addresses.
Am unable to un and reinstall IP.(bummer)

If anybody can help me I would be forever in their debt
signed.

One very frustrated ISP user.

just a note on above.
I have uninstalled firewall software and turned off xp firewall.
thanks

I just had a DNS problem on a Palm Tungsten C. I called SBC/Yahoo and the tech volunteered the DNS address. He said it's not on the PC. He was looking it up in a database. It resolved the problem. The Palm can now surf.

Have you really removed the firewall and all its components? That did it for me.
Also: have you tried to remove Spyware from your system? They tend to corrupt or replace Winsock files.

SpyBot S&D can help you with this issue.
You can also try WinSockFix.

dudes.
I ran adadware and spy bot they found some stuff.
I also tried removing all relevant entries in the registry regarding my firewall.
I also ran winsockfix - nice tool thanks pxbenl.
when i rebooted i got a lsass.exe endpoint is not valid system error before the login screen and when i clicked ok the machine rebooted. same went for safe mode.
I tried a system restore but that only gave me the same result. I am now rebuilding and have no doubts that it will resolve the issue. I think my registry editing put me in the S&%t. I did take a backup but when reapplied it didnt seem to resolve. ah well.... thnak for the help anyhow
