We're running Server 2003. I set the TCP/IP to manual and put it in an IP address and subnet and in DNS some reason it creates 2 HOST (A) records each having a different IP address for the server. One for the manual IP I assigned (x.x.x.100) and another out of no where (x.x.x.173).
Now my DNS shows two Host (A) records that show SERVER3 having IP address x.x.x.173, another Host (A) record for Server3 saying it's also x.x.x.100 AND Workstation45 also has a Host (A) record for x.x.x.173. People can't join the domain because it keeps sending them to the x.x.x.173 thinking that's where the server is when it's not.
How do I get rid of it? I first deleted the bad Host A record and it popped right back in. I then searched the registry and found that IP address hiding in HKEY_Local_Machine\System\ControlSet002\Services\TCPIP\Parameters\interfaces\{FAE323d...}\DHCPIpAddress so I chose to modify it and change it to a different network entirely and it immediately switched back. I then set the network card to get an IP address through DHCP and back to manual and rebooted. It's still comes back. Any ideas?
