When my users have their DND buttons on, the person dialing will here 4 rings rather than it go straight into voice mail. The phone itself does not ring out loud, but you can see it flash 4 times on the display when there is an incoming call.

How can I change that so that when the DND button is on it goes straight to VM and not ring at all???

The DND button isn't designed to be a hard call forward to voice mail. It simply make the phone not ring. That's all it is supposed to do.

If the user wants all of their calls to go to vmail immediately they will need to do a Feature 4 or Call Forward and dial the first port of the vmail. MRoberts

That can't be. It used to do it using the DND button only. If it wasn't the DND button, it was still done via the touch of one button. TO do the call forward thing you suggested, the user would have to enter the voice mail number each time. This is not how it had been working for us.

You have to set the forward on busy on each phone to go to the first port of the vmail.

Forward on Busy redirects your calls to another phone on your system (vmail ext) when you are busy on a call or when you have Do Not Disturb activated at your telephone. MRoberts

this is similar to what i'd like to do. i have DID's and target lines set up. each phone has 2 line appearances. so, if i'm on a call, i can see that i'm getting another and choose to ignore it or place the first call on hold, etc.

my problem is that if DND is on, and i don't answer the phone, it won't go to my vmail, it gets forwarded to the target attendent. can i make it go to my vmail?

if i program the forward on busy, (whether DND is on or not) if i'm on the other line, the phone won't ring, it goes straight to vmail. can i specific the forward on busy *after* 4 rings?? or something like that?

i have MICS 5.0. thanks.

aasun,
Forward no answer your phone to vmail as executone instructs above. The second call it will ring softly in the back ground and if you don't want to answer it, leave it alone and it will forward to vmail in however many rings you want.

kxanthos didn't want it to ring 4 times before going to vmail when they are on a call so if they set call forward on busy then when they are on the phone the call will go straight to vmail. If they are simply sitting at their desk and don't want to take any calls, they can put their phone into DND and it will go straight to vmail. MRoberts

Howdy,
You could always have them do a Feture 984. That will automatically transfer all calls to Voice Mail. Seems like this would serve your purpose.

thanks for all the feedback. i know my way around the system fairly well.. and i know that kxanthos' needs were different than mine. i was running into a problem where people were complaining that if a call came in on the target line (a did number) and dnd was enabled, the call wouldn't go to vmail, but to the target attendent.

after much testing, i realized that wasn't the case. messing with the forward and DND didn't do anything... the reason is because calls were getting sent to the target attendant (not the vmail) if both appearances were in use (regardless of whether or not DND was enabled). i'm guessing that when the calls weren't getting routed to vmail properly, the users were on a conference call, or had a second call on hold, or something similar.

this makes sense.. and if i added a third appearance, i'm sure this wouldn't happen unless all 3 were in use. though, i don't want to add a third appearance.

are my assumptions accurate?
thanks!
