I have a Partner ACS 6.0 ...No voice Mail...The boss's assistant [Px 14], want's the main receptionest [Px 10], to be able tell by looking at her phone that the boss's assistant [ Px 14 ] is out of her office...Line of sight is impossible...
I started with a Do Not Disturb button on Px 14 and a Auto Dial on Px 10, but she claims that it is not good enough since Px 10 cannot tell the difference between out of office and telephone in use.
Any idea's what might work best if anything at all..
Message light??,,Call forward??,,Manual signal???,,

Run another extension port to the Assistant. Remove all lines from it in programming. Don't actually put a phone on it, but a toggle switch and a 500-ohm resistor in series across Tip and Ring. Put an Auto-Intercom button for this extension on the Operator's phone, and have the Assistant turn the toggle ON when leaving the office.

TTT...Thanks...Great idea...Can I assume that I should program the extension for intercom only...And what will the 500 Ohm resister do instead of a solid short across the Tip & Ring..?

Intercom Only is the same as removing all lines. You don't want it to go off hook and busy out a line, just go off hook and indicate on the Auto Intercom button.

I'd rather not put a dead short on the station port, hence the resistor. Make it a 5 watt one while you're at it.

You know what? You could also program an unused line to both the Assistant and Receptionist. Reprogram the Auto Line Select on both phones to NOT ever select that line automatically. Make it No Access on the Receptionist. When the Assistant is AWAY, she presses that line, taking the phone off-hook. It is busy to anyone trying to reach her, so it covers to voice mail, and the corrosponding line on the Receptionist shows up as well. Maybe put the line next to the Auto Intercom button on the Receptionist, put it next to the DND button on the Assistant.

TTT...Thanks...I like your second approach best...It's a little cleaner than the toggle switch..
Very nice work around...I'll give it a try...
Thanks for the reply!!!

You said no voice mail on the Partner System.
Have the Boss light the message light on Ext 10 by using Message Light On F0910 when leaving and Message Light Off F1010 when coming back into the office.
The Message light will indicate when the Boss is in or out.

Taz666 & Crumthwacket..Thank You both...It was something I thought of at first but I wasn't sure if there was a good, better,or best work around out there...

You are what makes this forum ROCK!!
Thanks again....
