Hi

I have three clients running windows 2007 all in the same domain as the DNA server. Two of them are working fine the third throws an error:

"Failed to connect with logging facilities server. Verify it is running"

Whenever DMG is opened.

If I go to the server and open the DMG, I can put in her user details and it connects fine.

As is often the way, the guy who usually deals with this is on hols and I'm left with the task of fixing it.

Until eyesterday I knew nothing of DNA, thanks to this forum and google I now know a smidge more than nothing :)

I actually had the client working yesterday, but when the user logged off last night and back on this morning that error appeared.

What I did yesterday:

1. Map a drive to the server from the client
2. Install the client from DNA_S/MRS/InstallationFiles/ClientInstallation
3. Installed the servicePack from the same location
4. Everything worked

I've double checked that the drive mapping is still present to \SERVER\DNA_S and it is. I've even tried running the dmg.exe off the server and no joy.

I've set the user as Full control over the DNA_C folder

I just can't think what else is different, but I'm guessing I missed something on the install process.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Stewart

**UPDATE**

If I re-install the Service pack everything starts to work again, after a reboot. Then if I log out it reverts to the previous error. I'm suspecting a privilege issue somewhere.

I've created a fourth client on my own PC. I've got admin rights on all folders on the PC and I get the same errors.

I'm vexed how logging off can be causing such a fault.

Group Policy on the logon or Pc is a likely cause, or simply incompatibility with the client OS. Unique install that, Windows 2007 :) I don't even have the files for 5.0 anymore but I can tell you as far back as 5.2 only NT and Windows 2000 are tested and supported, have you checked the release notes for 5.0 SP8 to make sure the client OS is compatible?

I checked for you

NT SP6a
2000 SP4
98 SP1
XP SP1

if you are compatible, look at GPO

Hi Parnum

Thanks for the reply, I've done some more digging and it appears the users that work have a DMG_new.exe in their DNA_C I've tried copying this across and it didn't make any difference. I'm wondering if this is some update that isn't in the service pack files on the server. The original DMG.exe for those users are still present in the folder though so it doesn't look like a complete patch.

I tried copying the whole DNA_C folder accross. That seemed to get a little better user could log in, although got a locking error saying data was being editied. I got roudn this by getting the editing user to log out, the new user to log in and then everyone could log in.....then it fell over again.

I think you're right on the group policy, I'm just not sure what is different.....is there anywhere other that modify rights for DNA_C and DNA_S that it would require?

Thanks

Don't try copying folders across between clients, use the installer. Install as you did and check the version of dm.exe marches the server. If it doesn't, you're missing s hotfix,

Check common files on c, might be dlls in there as well, can't recall with DNA, don't look at too often these days

One important thing - when you run a client install, at the end reboot and log back on as local admin. You should get a DOD box pop up where dlls are registered. If you don't, its GPO,

Hi

Was definitely GPO, I added the user as admin with full control of C: and everything started working. Security not overly happily but I'll let the usual guy sort out my mess tomorrow when he's back! :)

Thanks for all your help
