Researching company's new Backup solution. Looking for a few opinions on Quantum DLT's vs Sony's AIT format. Major points that I know now:

1. AIT is faster
2. AIT is cheaper
3. DLT has a proven record for reliablity
4. In reference to #3 this proven record has been proven for years and years now (time for new technology?)

Any opinions are appricated.
Thanks, Mantislee

Depends on how much you are backing up and how often.

I use DLT for small amounts of data (single tape) as I find DLT autoloaders to be vastly expensive.

Using multi tape loaders I have AIT as it is faster (250MB/min without compression or agents). I regularly back up 200GB a night. I use the 15 tape library on a 35/70 which is the dogs. The library was the same price as a single DLT 70/140 and the AIT works up to 1GB with compression...

We are planning to purchase Sony AIT-2 tape libarry. How much time does it take to backup up 1.5 gig an how reliable is it? Thankyou.
