I have run the package and deployment wizard on my database application and everything seemed to go well. When I run setup on another computer I get a message saying "Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system" after processing about 19 files. It goes on to say press OK to update or Cancel to close out of the setup. Seems straight forward so I hit OK to allow the computer to do the updates and restart, but when I tried to install again it tries to install only three files that were supposedly updated. I followed the same steps as before, but after each restart I have to update three files, one of which flashes on the screen too fast to read. They are VB6STKIT.DLL and msvcrt.dll and they are listed in the list of dependancies that package and deployment wizard has recognized as necceassary for my application. I would appreciate any help on this subject.

Yeah, that's pretty much what harebrain's and my debate was about, I taking the pro side of your idea and he taking the con.

As for updating an installation, I'm assuming that you mean repackaging with new dlls or new versions of existing dlls. The best way that I know of to do that is to open an existing script, modify it as needed, and save it under a new name.

I am fairly new to VB, though old in the business. I have read the entire forum and kind of lean towards the safer approach.

In any case, the reason for my reply is that I found a solution that works for all situations and it was posted at: After I placed the MSVCRT.DLL in the Redist directory, I was able to install the application on all OS 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP.

Another option that would work also is to remove the files that are causing the copy problem from the dependency list or ship the application with 2 SETUP.LST files, one includes the full installation and the other without, and give the user instructions on how to replace or rename the file.

Hope this helps.
