In a frame Relay network do I need to assign a dlci ( data -link connection identifier)to every channel of a T1.

No, DLCIs are assigned by the telco. You will have one (per side) for each PVC (permanent virtual circuit). The DLCI is essentially the layer two address used by the local router to tell the frame relay switch which PVC a particular data stream is supposed to travel on. It has nothing at all to do with the channels of the T1 all active channels on the T1 will be shared by all of your PVCs. That is one of the nice things about frame relay -- one circuit for many connections.<br>

I may have over simplified a bit, but I hope this helps a little.
