My DL380 G2 indicates that any drive I place in that slot has failed. But those same failed drives work before and after on a different machine. I believe Slot 1 is defective. Some manual said to always fill the slots in order. I think I would be best off disabling the bad slot. Can that be done? If the SCSI controller is the problem, then I may have a "spare parts box". Any thoughts?

i have seen this before and as you say the slot is a duffer - or well the connector on the backplane of this slot has an issue - only true fis is to swap the backplane - but as it's a g2 - you aint gonna do that now

i dont think you can disable it - just basically dont use

Well, I just got a DL380 G3 for $99. So I will skip the back plane.

The likely culprit is actually the RAID controller. That backplane is not split, though it could be the culprit. I doubt it, though.
