We are curretnly in the process of updating our Exchange 5.5 server to 2000. We have successfully joined the 2000 server to the 5.5 site and moved over 2 mailboxes. However 2 of those mailboxes are part of a DL that is on the 5.5 server and are not getting mail sent to the DL. any ideas why? Do I have to move that DL to the 2000 server? If I do, what of the other users who are part of the DL that are still on 5.5?

Now I am unable to receive any mail. Internal or external. I checked the event logs, but i do not see anything that says it is unable to deliver mail. I just recently moved my mailbox from our exchange 5.5 server to our exchange 2000 server. they are both in the same site and domain.

New info:

I can send mail to people (I am on Exchange 200 and they are on 5.5) But when they try to send me mail or reply to a message it says it was rejected. What did I miss?

mikesid,

do the people sending from the 5.5 "see" you in the global address list?

scottie

Yes. I just checked a computer that is still on 5.5 and they can see me in the GAL. But this is the message they get when they send me mail:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipeint(s) could not be reached:

<My name> on 6/26/2004 9:01AM
The recipient name is not recognized
<E2K servername.domain name. #5.1.7>

Update:

I noticed in ADUC that i did not have an email address in there. So u put it in and its working. But now i have a new question. I had two SMTP addresses. How can i verify that the users i move over will also have there multiple SMTP addresses as well? We have alot of users who have various names, bsmith@ourdomain.com, bobs@ourdomain.com.

mikesid,

yea, the multiple smtp address thing requires some thought. the bolded one is the primary and that will be used on all out bound messages. if you have any mail enabled groups with smtp addresses that will be the same as the secondary address for the users, you will get a conflict. exchange 2k IS active directory. (or a part of it to be more correct). the users should recieve the 2ndary smtp address, it won't be bolded. at least mine did.

Thank you very much for the information. On E2K, where do you add SMTP addresses for users? On 5.5 all i did was double click the mailbox and went to the Email Adresses tab and added them as neccessary. How do i do this for E2K?

Thanx again for your help. Your information is awesome.

everything is in active directory. mail enabled users will have the exchange tabs. the email addresses tab allows you to edit and add, ect.

thanx for the help again :). I was using the ADUC from my computer and i only get the new "exchange options" when i look at ADUC from the exchange server.

Is there a way to update my version of ADUC? I installed it from the adminpak.msi a while ago.

mikesid,

you need to install the exchange system manager components from the cd on the machine that you want to "see" the tabs from. put the exchange cd in your machine and install the management features only. not the message and collab.. (or you will get another exchange box...) then your aduc will show the exchange tabs for mail enabled objects...

Hi!

There is something confusing.
It seems that you have users with more than on mailbox on The Exchange 5.5 server like user Bob Smith.
Have you run the NtdsNoMatch utility?
You have to set Attribute 10 to NtdsNoMatch for the duplicate mailboxes so the ADC is able to create disabled user accounts for them.

No problem :).

I did run the ntdsnomatch and added accounts for those mailboxes. Now when i migrate everyone over i am trying to find a way to give users access to more than once box since some people who have left there boxes were assigned to other people as thier main nt account. Someone told me to go to ADUC and open advaned view and give them full right from there but i do not s ee where he is talking about.

if a user needs access to other mailboxes, locate the object that has ownership of the mailbox ---> exchange advanced tab ---> mailbox rights button ---> add the user to the rights, give read, change , full(if necessary) and apply. then go to outlook properties (right click icon is one way...) highlight exchange server, choose properties, then advanced tab then choose add from open these additional mailboxes... choose the mailbox in question, close and save. re-open outlook and you will see an new outlook grouping for this mailbox... and then you will be managing more than one mailbox from your outlook client (or shared between many users, ect...)

I think everyone should have there own personal scottie :)

Thanx again.

mikesid,

just passing on what i can... that's what this site is all about.

I am currently using a site connector between Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 server. Having trouble with new users not showing up in Global Address List and new users can not e-mail from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. Not sure if this is a permissions thing or what.
