Hi There

We currently have a problem where a user in or mail domain will send a mail to a local distribution list. They will then receive a message back saying that a user kate@exampledomain.com has not been recognised. kate@exampledomain.com was an ex-employee of ours and her mailbox has since been deleted. If you go into the distribution list in exchange admin you will not find this recipient as a member of the distribution list. We are using exchange 5.5. Does anyone have any idea where this deleted mail box name is being picked up from ?

Regards
Smokey

1] Are you quite sure the mailbox deleted and has not just been hidden?

2] Perhaps you could do a directory export to a CSV file and search through to see what object has the email address in question?

Make sure that none of the recipients who are in the DL have any auto-forward rules or alternate recipients set to send mail to the deleted mailbox.

Thanks for the sugegstions. Could not find the mailbox in question in the export. Also created a test distribution list and a test mail box. Added myself to the test distribution list along with the test mail box. Sent a mail with not return message from system administrator. Then deleted the test mail box and sent another mail to the test ditribution list. Received a message back from sys admin saying the mailbox name test@exampledomain.com not found. Then checked the distribution list and the test mail account is not present.

Perhaps this is a bug? Its very annoying however because the support desk keeps getting cases raised on this.

Anymore suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Smokey
