I am running an Exchange 2003 server, one of my user has a list about 100 external email addresses and she wants to send an email to this 100 recipients.

Is there a way to create a mailing list or distribution list with Exchange server to do this?

Please help

Create a distribution group in AD.

Add all of your custom recipients.

Cheers.

Blakey2 hit the nail right on the head:

1) Create a Custom Recipient for each external address

2) Create a Distribution Group and add each of those Custom Recipients to it

Piece of cake...

Thanks for your sharing friends.

Is there an alternative way to do this without touching AD? Because I just don't want to house some external email addresses in our internal organization AD

They will only be contacts, so I would not worry about having them in AD.

I assume she's using Outlook? She could create a personal distribution group within Contacts, add all 100 to that group, and then send it that way. No AD involved.

Crobin1,

I think by default Exchange server only allow max number of recipients is 10. So if the list is more than 10, it won't allow to send from outlook. She did tried that and it did not work.

Is there a third party software that allows to do this kind of work?

I've done personal distribution lists with more than 10 recipients and never had a problem, though I don't remember doing as many as 100. There is at least one Exchange setting that might affect the number of recipients. In System Manager go to Global Settings. Open the properties for Message Delivery, then go to the Defaults tab. See what the "Recipient limits" is set to.
