how to allow members of a distribution list to send emails under the mail address assigned to that distribution list
now i'm receiving error: You do not have the permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user

example:
my exchange handles email for the domain @company.com
every user has its own mailbox (username@company.com)
email sent to company@company.com is distributed to 5 employees
i would like to configure my exchange that when user replies to an email sent to address company@company.com, it is sent under the mail address company@company.com
thanx

On the General tab of the properties screen for the mailbox, set the Primary Windows NT Account to the distribution list containing those users who need to use the account.

In the users Outlook set the Mailbox name to the shared one under the Microsoft Exchange Server properties. :)

well according top your post i've created a special user group of users who should receive emails sent to company@company.com, lets say "maillist"
as i was using distribution list do deliver these mails, i had to create an email account for company@company.com to set the primary account to maillist
then i set the shared mail account in the ms exchange server general properties
the user was not able to open this mailbox (permissions)

then i've tryed setting a real user as primary nt account for this email and into the alternate recipients set the distribution list i used before - none of the users received an email

probably i'm doing something wrong, plz can you give me a detailed description how to allow users in the distribution list to send emails as company@company.com?

Open the DL item in Exchange Admin. On the Permissions tab, give each of the 5 users "USER" permission. Make sure the Send As option is checked.

i don't have any permissions tab in the properties of the distribution list
is it caused by the 5.5 version of exchange?

JWilliams is right on how to do this.
Additionally, when the user is replying to the email, s/he (while in the reply email) needs to go to the VIEW menu and select the "From Field" in which s/he who is replying will need to either type the SMPT address of the DL or the GAL name of the DL or browse to it on the GAL (if you do not have it hidden from the GAL.)

(DL = distribution list; GAL = global address list)

In order to see the permissions tab JWilliams is talking about, from exchange admin, go to Tools | Options | Permissions tab and put a checkmark in the "Show Permissions page for all objects" option. You'll probably also want the next checkmark option of "Display rights for roles on Permissions page." Click OK. (You may have to close the admin app and reopen it in order to see this additional tab on all objects, I don't remember.)

Good luck,
