I'm developing an application in Access 2000. Development is on a Win XP machine.

When I copy the Access files to a CDR and then copy them from the CDR to another machine (generally Win98 machines) and try to open the databases (front and back ends), they are marked as read only. The only way I can get them working correctly on the destination machine is to create new databases on the new machine and import everything.

What do I need to do so that they will not be read only?

copying to CD always makes them read only.
After copying to the destination machine right-click on the file name in explorer go to properties and uncheck the read only box or have I missed something?

Copying files to CDR automatically flags each file as read-only. You need to remove the file's Read-only Attribute property after copying to the hard drive.

This can be done via:
1. Windows Explorer/My Computer (find the file, right-mouse click to select Properties, and uncheck the Read-only Attribute).
2. DOS Command Window (Attrib -r filename.mdb) Jim Kraxberger

Thanks. I was hoping that I was missing something, but I guess this means that any installation procedure must reset the read only attribute of any file copied from a CD.
