I am looking at a Nortel Norstar phone system... I currently use ringmaster (two phone numbers assigned to one phone line... first number rings regular and second number double rings) I have read in other forums that it will not work with this system but it will work with earlier software versions of it... Is there a way to turn mine with DR5.1 to a previous software version?

A technician will be able to do this for you. I'm not so sure that DR5.1 won't pass double ringing.

I bought a used system and did not think about distinctive ring not working until after bought.. I should get it in the next couple of days. If it does not pass on the double ring how can I fix it?

I have had an "issue" on several of my Nortel sites. When they've changed service providers, and the new provider generates ring at a double cadence, I've either had to reprogram the KSU to change the number of Call Forwarding rings to double what it was, or contact the CO to see if they could change it to a single ring.

This may be good in your case, as the KSU's do take ring cadence from the CO, however, you may have trouble setting CFNA, DRT to Prime, VM answer, etc...

For example, you want VM to pick up at 4 rings. This works fine for line 1, but the system recognizes the double ring on line 2 as 2 distinctive rings. VM answers those at 2 rings.

Sorry, I don't recall which rev of SW those systems were running.
