anyone know what distance a 406 can be from a 16 port digital expansion module?

Both the Supported distance and the actually tested working distance..

thanks

I have tried 7 foot cables and had all kinds of sound issues. they worked but we got static and echo

They should remove all your earned stars directly :)
Go sit in the corner

Always use the provided cable or you will have trouble

But i understand you want to try the limits :)

75 feet? Are you a dwarf?;)

I have tested this and a cable length over 1.8 meters gave severe quality problems with digital stations

so it might work or might not. it's for a site who is expandind to a new floor but rather than having to wire all back to 1st floor we were thinking about running just the xpansion module?

Did the people who ventured outside the 2 metres using standard Cat5 or try Cat6/ Shielded Cat5/6 cables?

Don't do it
It will cost you more with solving problem and in the end change it to the way it should be

You could put in a ip500 but it will be the double price

Here is a link;

Expansion Interconnect Cable
The Expansion Interconnect cable is used to link expansion ports between the IP Office control unit and external expansion module (except WAN3 modules).

WARNING: This is the only cable that should be used for connecting an IP Office control unit to external expansion modules (except for WAN3 modules).

1 Meter/3.28 Feet

greetzzz...Bas

• Supply: One cable is normally supplied with each external expansion module.
• SAP Code: 700213457

The only thing you could try is using a short simular cable and attach it to a converter and convert it to glassfiber
With this way you will not go over the normal lenght

But i never tried this and i have no option to try it

okay, don't think I;ll try it, cabling hasn't been done yet so at least I know. Might be worth going down the ip route so!

thanks to all for the warnings...

Thought about using a transmitter, but all 8 pins are used and so we can´t use glasfiber converter. perhaps u can make a 1 meter long shortcut clockb to syncb and vise versa.

Expansion Port (RJ45 Socket)

Pin No.
Description
Signal Direction

1
Receive Data (Rx-B)
2
Receive Data (Rx-A)
3
Sync-B
4
Clock (Clk-B)
5
Clock (Clk-A)
6
Sync-A
7
Transmit Data (Tx-B)
8
Transmit Data (Tx-A)
Shield
Connected to chassis.
Ground.

Sorpio this maybe could work, 1,2,7,8 is as i see just network, so 3,4,5,6 could be connected to a transmitter.

Just put in a 50 or a 100 pair
A couple or patchpanels and then it is done

Jamie,

That is the best idea, but you know technicians we always like to find more then one way to get from A to B.

Get direct 2Mbps internet connections installed on both floors. Buy the most expensive VPN terminator you can find and throw it in next to the IPO and put VPN Remote onto some 4625's (colour is obviously needed!!!! and looks pretty!) and set these to go via the 2Mbps to the floor below.

How's that???

At least Avaya will support it!?!?!?!?!

Do hosted IP telephony and put on every floor that 1:1 2Mbps Internet connection. And put you IPO at home so you don't need a remote connection to service it....:p
