Hello People!

Im going into my final year of university summer next year and thinkin of starting to write my dissertation in January.

Any ideas of what developments within Project Management and/or MIS I could possibly write about...

One Idea I have is the computing teacher which America has implemented over the last year or so but thats about it.

Thanks

Project management of offshore projects would certainly be topical. Obstacles include culture, holidays, communication, time zone difference, how to meet, how to measure progress, etc.

Write a paper on why vendors never deliver on their promises and stick the sys admins with multiple issues that have to be defended. This can simply be explained by sales persons who don't know squat and managers who buy into it. You could title it "Reciprocal Idiocity" or "Exponential Reciprocity vis-à-vis Idiocentesis".

Yat5 - maybe consider writing about:

social costs of technologies implemented ?

impact on society that technology plays ?

Is technology stagnant ?

What "killer applications" are in wait ?

Managing the outsourced worker, remotely ?

Managing what you can't see or feel ?

If it's for your doctorate, well you know the rules. If not- then tie in what you write about with what you've been expecting to do for the past X-years !!!! By now, you should have some idea where you're going with Project Management, which leanings you have- more managerial or technical, hands off or hands on, and field work that I'm sure you've had opportunity to get in some way ?

Get busy- talk to some folks in the field, businesses, etc.... walk around, you'll get an idea.

Then, after itz all said and done- get your butt to work and earn some mulah. [wink]

Congratulations on your sucess in advance ! [smarty]

The older I get, the less I know

Thanks to all for help and if anyone has anything else it would be much appreciated.

If you decide to go with the offshore PM idea, there are a couple threads in the "Where is IT Going in the Next 5 Years" forum which will also help get you started. Good luck, doc.
